Eyebrow Threading at Stylash Makati

Wikipedia defines Eyebrow Threading asThreading is an ancient method of hair removal originating in India. In more recent times it has gained popularity in Western countries, especially with a cosmetic application (particularly for removing/shaping eyebrows).

Technique: In threading, a thin (cotton or polyester) thread is doubled, then twisted. It is then rolled over areas of unwanted hair, plucking the hair at the follicle level. Unlike tweezing, where single hairs are pulled out one at a time, threading can remove short lines of hair.

Advantages cited for eyebrow threading, as opposed to eyebrow waxing, are that it provides more precise control in shaping eyebrows and is more gentle on the skin. It can be painful as several hairs are removed at once: however this can be minimized if it is done professionally.

There are a few different techniques for threading. These include the hand method, mouth method and neck. Each technique has advantages and disadvantages; however, the mouth holding method is the fastest and most precise.

I have been wanting to get my brows shaped and colored by professionals so I don't have to do it myself because I suck at it. Plus, it's actually practical because you won't have to wear make-up especially when you don't have enough time to apply it on or you're too lazy to do it (like me). So I went to look for blogs and forums about such a thing and found positive feedback about Benefit Cosmetics, Browhaus, and STYLASH.

I looked at the prices, of course, that will fit my budget for now, and decided to go for Stylash. I will also try the other two for my brow tint, maybe, one of these days or when my wallet permits me to do so.

THE PLACE

STYLASH is located inside Landmark Makati, ground floor, right next to the escalator. There was a small area underneath the escalator that they turned into an eyelash extension section. You wouldn't at all feel that people who are shopping in there are looking at you because you're not facing them. I believe, they can accommodate up to 5 customers at a time. They also have other branches that you can visit near you.

They specialize in eyelash extensions, but they also have other services such as eyebrow threading and brow tinting. For the one in Landmark these are the services and prices:

THE THREADING

My plan was to have my brows shaped and colored as well or tinted, or whatever you call it. However, Hazel (the receptionist and also did my brow) said she would not recommend having my eyebrows tinted because my eyebrow texture is so thin, and the shades that they had will only lighten the color which will make it looks thinner and worse. So I just asked for eyebrow threading.

That was my first for an eyebrow threading. I had them plucked, shaved, and trimmed before though. Hazel handed me a mirror so I'd be able to see how it's being done. I was amazed. It was such a skill to me :)

She put something on my eyebrows first, I think it was a gel, then started threading. She uses an ordinary white thread. It didn't take a while. It didn't sting as much as plucking. It actually felt kinda relaxing because it sort of massaging my eyebrows and forehead.

After which, she explained to me that my eyebrows were shaped incorrectly. She told me to let them grow and come back after a month, and she'll fix them. I kinda have a feeling that it was my fault :D

I apologize for not having the "before" picture and the "after" picture is not that clear.

THE SCORE

Hazel is a kind of an attendant that I like. She's approachable; she knows what she's saying; she's polite; she's nice; she's genuine, and she did a great job. Price-wise, not bad; it fits my budget. Location-wise, no problem with me because even if it's inside a department store and people are walking in, shopping and everything, it won't make you feel uncomfortable at all. So I think I found one that will take care of my eyebrow for me. Oh well, I'm planning to get my brows colored at either Benefit Cosmetics or Browhaus. Thanks for stopping by.

  1. Hi There,

Next day i trip the parlar The Lashe. Its beautician is really good for eyes. Wash your face clean of make-up, oil and dirt. Use warm to mildly hot water to open your pores. This makes the hair removal easier. Start plucking the outer most hairs and strays first. Go back and forth between brows to make sure you are plucking evenly. See more: eyebrow extensions
